Fake gameplay and gaming ads are designed to catch a viewer’s attention quickly and stand out in a crowded market. The exaggerated and dramatic aspects in these ads often involve unrealistic gameplay aimed at being more eye-catching for the consumers, or high-action scenarios that don’t represent the actual experience. This causes the consumers to make an impulsive decision on installing the app that is being presented and to play the game properly. Fake gaming ads also have its consequences on damaging the consumer’s trust and causing a rise in the number of bad reviews and complaints that causes the app to have a bad image with consumers. Some fake gaming ads also contain oversexualized content within the ads that is inappropriate for underage gamers. This research summarizes the actions and reactions that are being made toward these fake gaming ads to give knowledge and insights about this type of marketing strategy.
